The Chimney Clinic is home of all chimney inspection and cleaning concerns, along with all chimney repairs and chimney relining.
General Listings
6.1.1 General Factory Built chimneys and chimney units shall be listed and installed in accordance with the temperature and pressure conditions of the listing and manufactures instructions.
6.1.3 Listing requirements
6.1.3.1 - Factory built chimneys shall comply with requirements of ANSI
Fire rating on Enclosures
6.1.4 Enclosures
Factory built chimneys that pass through the floors of buildings require the protection of vertical openings shall be enclosed with approved walls having a fire resistance rating of not less than 1 hr where such chimneys are located in a building less than four stories in height and not less than 2 hrs where such chimneys are located in a building four or more stories in height.
7.1.6 Firestopping
Firestopping gap width
7.1.6.1 - Gaps between firestopping and the chimney shall not exceed 1/16"
7.1.6.2 - All spaces between chimneys and the floors and ceilings through which chimneys pass shall remain fully open but shall be firestopped with non combustible material.
7.1.6.3 - The fire stopping of spaces between chimneys and wood joists, beams, or headers shall be of galvanized steel not less than 26 gauge thick or of non combustible sheet material not more than 1/2" thick.
Fireplace listing
11.1.1 - Factory built fireplaces shall be listed and installed in accordance with the terms of the listing.
Hearth extensions
11.1.2 - Hearth extensions shall be provided in accordance with the manufactures instructions or be of masonry on noncombustible construction in accordance with Section 11.3
Secured to floor
11.1.3 - Factory built fireplaces must be secures to the floor or structural framing of the building to prevent shifting.
Decorative shrouds
11.1.4 - Only listed decorative shrouds at the termination of a factory built fireplace chimney shall be permitted.
