Throat dampers can be controlled by poker style, rotary gear and double pivot. The illustration above shows rotary controls and poker styles.

Damper Types

11.2.9.4 - Damper controls shall be permitted to be located in the fireplace.

11.2.9.3 - A nonferrous damper shall be permitted to be installed at the top of the flue specified in 11.2.9.2

Damper Locations


11.2.1.8.2 -  The fireplace throat or damper shall be located a minimum of 8" above the top of the fireplace. 


11.2.9.2 - Dampers shall be installed in the fireplace or at the top of the flue venting the fireplace and shall be operable from the room containing the fireplace.

Throat Damper Height

11.2.9.1 - Masonry fireplaces shall be equipped with a ferrous metal damper located at least 8" above the top of the fireplace opening.
